Loop Hero is the perfect switch game

By Posted on 0 Comments3min read5 views

Loop Hero is still one of my favorite games of 2021. After launching in March, this curious independent roguelite from Devolver Digital and Four Quarters has delighted fans around the world in a strangely different way from other recent staples in this genre. – Hades, Slay the Spire, Monster Train and Spelunky. Perhaps the one he most closely resembles is Hades in that you have to end the loop to restart it in any meaningful way – and yet Loop Hero has nothing to do with Hades because it is dark and gritty and macabre, as opposed to basking in the style and silky elegance of the hit Supergiant.

Loop Hero is dark. It’s weird and mysterious and omnipresent terrible, but it’s also oddly optimistic in that it successfully appropriates ambiguity as a mask of nihilism. There is, at the most basic level, no interest in this desolate and depraved world. Monsters roam random roads to nowhere, confined to unique loops as fundamentally defeatist as an ouroboros. No matter how many buildings you build, how many monsters you kill, or what resources you collect, all loops must end – but like with ouroboros, every ending is a new beginning, especially when the circle is warped into pieces. new and unknown forms.

Related: God Mode Is The Best Thing About Hades

For what it’s worth, Loop Hero is awesome on PC. I’ve often sat here after hours looking for parts with a windowed tab in the top right corner of my screen, automatically micromanaging my progress while reading the Critical Theory or the latest viral shitpost. This is Loop Hero’s most important strength: it’s in these unintentionally perpetuated sessions that this game really shines, as your laissez-faire attitude to playing serves as a perfect mirror to the masterful monotony of the world. It’s trite in the brightest sense of the word, in that there is no overwhelming deluge of color or noise or bossy exposure – it’s as fascinating as a loop can l ‘to be, which is at the same time not fascinating at all and yet fascinating beyond belief.

loop hero nintendo switch

That’s why Loop Hero is the perfect Switch game. Yes, you can plug in your Switch and play Pokemon Sword or Breath of the Wild on a big screen and enjoy Nintendo’s hybrid machine as a good and proper home console, but the real magic of the Switch will always be in its portable side. . I’d much rather stay in bed with my Switch acting as the only light source than crank the volume up to 100 and watch less-than-stellar visuals unfold on a 32-inch screen. In the atmosphere, this is already inherently automatic – you are lying in your bed, tired and turned off, doing the movements in a pleasant but above all unconscious way. There are many games that are ideally suited to this mode of play, but few of them are as suitable as Loop Hero. This, in and of itself, is the perfect game to play without needing to invest too much time or energy to focus on the actual act of playing.

I would actually play Loop Hero on anything. As I mentioned earlier, this is already one of my games of the year, nestled comfortably alongside Persona 5 Strikers and New Pokemon Snap. If there was anything that could provide Loop Hero with the ability to spoof these powerhouses, it would be a Switch port – now that that has been announced, I’m curious to see if there is anything else to launch this year. able to overtake it.

Whether you’ve played and loved Loop Hero before, or approached it with fresh eyes, I can’t recommend this phenomenal game for Switch highly enough. Turn off the lights, grab a cup of tea, and walk around the loop while your thoughts roam elsewhere. It’s meditative, melancholy, and beautiful in equal measure. With each loop that closes, there is a perfect opportunity for another to begin.

Nintendo eShop reveals release date for Spelunky Switches 1 and 2

By Posted on 0 Comments2min read7 views

In December of last year, Spelunky 1 and 2 were revealed for the Nintendo Switch. The launch period has been announced for summer 2021, but no firm release date has been given. As summer draws to a close, it’s time to find out the date. Thankfully, the release date and pricing for the two Spelunky games have been officially revealed, and the wait won’t be very long.

According to the Nintendo eShop game pages for Spelunky and its Spelunky 2 sequel, both games are slated for release on Switch on August 26, 2021. Spelunky will cost $ 9.99 while Spelunky 2 will lighten your wallet by $ 19.99.

For the uninitiated, here’s a quick rundown of Spelunky 1:

“Spelunky is a unique platform game with randomly generated and fully destructible levels that deliver a new challenging experience every time you play. Travel deep underground and explore fantastic places filled with all kinds of monsters, traps and treasures. You will have complete freedom as you navigate fully destructible environments and master their many secrets. Stay or flee, kill or rescue, buy or steal… in Spelunky, the choice is yours and the consequences too!

In the meantime, here’s the synopsis for Spelunky 2 courtesy of the game’s eShop page:

“Meet the next generation of explorers as they find themselves on the Moon in search of treasure and a missing family. Spelunky 2 builds on the unique, random challenges that made the original a classic, delivering a massive adventure designed to satisfy both old and new players. Explore the game on your own, play locally with up to four players, or for the first time join friends online to unravel its mysteries together (or battle it in competitive Arena modes).

The world of Spelunky 2 is even denser than that of the original game, offering more areas, characters, traps, and items, as well as new ways to interact with them (and for them to interact with each other). others). The world has expanded in other ways as well, with branching paths and multi-layered levels adding a third dimension to classic 2D platform gameplay.
