WayForward 20th Anniversary ‘Shantae’

According to a report from Nintendo Life, the character in the game title WayForward was born way back in 2002.

Shantae was born when the hottest rave of the day was Nintendo’s Game Boy Color. It was a time when the idea of waiting for the next PS5 restock was still not a thing, and the Switch has yet to debut.

The titular hero-genie’s game was then available on the Game Boy Color. After nearly a decade, Shantae made her long-awaited comeback, thanks to the release of “Shantae’s Risky Revenge” in 2010.

In 2020, WayForward gave Shantae fans another game title, the “Seven Sirens”, for Nintendo Switch players.

And this time around, another decade has passed since his comeback, marking the 20th anniversary of the WayForward title.

WayForward commemorated their return on Twitter by saying, “Twenty years ago today, the original Shantae game was released on Game Boy Color, and a fan-favorite franchise was born!”
